The Most Popular Tourist Attractions of Budapest

Budapest is the capital city of Hungary and is home to about two million residents. Ever since the fall of communism in 1989, the Hungarian capital city has been one of the leading tourist destinations in the region.

There are various reasons why so many travelers visit Budapest each year and they include the inexpensive cost of hotels and restaurants. However one of the main reasons why so many people visit this beautiful historic city is due to the large variety of attractions which travelers can visit during their trip.

Margaret Island

A beautiful spot in the city is Margaret Island which is a popular destination during the summer months for both locals and tourists. There are a number of activities which you can enjoy at this isle and which includes swimming in one of the two swimming pools, renting a bicycle or simply enjoying a walk in nature.

The Museum of Fine Arts

The Museum of Fine Arts is also known as the Szepm?veszeti Múzeum and is one of the leading museums of its kind. It is especially famous for its outstanding Spanish collection which includes pieces my famous artists including El Greco and Goya. The Museum of Fine Arts is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 until 17:30.

Budapest Zoo and Botanical Gardens

A great place to spend part of the day with your family is at the local Zoo and Botanical Gardens which is located right next to the world famous Gundel Restaurant. This popular attraction is located within walking distance to various other attractions including the Heroes square. Opening hours are daily from 09:00 until 18:00.

Castle District

The Budapest Castle District is one of the nicest places in the Hungarian capital to walk around and enjoy some shopping, dining and looking at many of the old and beautiful historic buildings. You could also visit the Castle, the plague monument and the Dominican monastery.

Heroes Square

This magnificent square is located right in the center of town and was built in 1896. In the center of Heroes Square there is a large pillar with a statue of the Archangel Gabriel on top. There is also a Hungarian war memorial located at this Budapest attraction as well as several wonderful art museums.
